LVB, SBM, PBC, CDS, AZL, STL, VBS

Road vs righty pitchers Chacin, Maeda, Mikolas,  Marquez, Velasquz, Ross, L.Castillo, F.Peralta, F.Pena

Prior to the 5th
If your lefty Starter comes out, no changes until top of 5th. At that point vs Ritey, Hernandez comes in for Marte and Grandal for Casali. If your righty Starter is replaced by a lefty, all can stay in till top 7th.
Top of the 7th
If your lefty is out, look for best matchups at c, 2b, 3b and Lf. If your righty is out and we are losing, look for best hitting matchups. If we are winning, look for best defense to come in mid 8th.

Position by position breakdown
Catcher Grandal vs rities, Casali vs lefties. Note above for changes. Grandal should finish.

1B Cron mostly, some Freese. Best matchup can finish. Defense-Cron a bit better. Gyorko, Casali & Grandal can backup also.

2B Hernandez vs rities & lefties, Marte vs lefties. Hernandez can finish if Marte is pulled earlier for a better matchup. In an emergency, Gyorko can backup, and to a lesser degree Casali.
3B Gyorko vs lefty and ritey. Freese vs some lefties. Gyorko can finish if Freese is at 1st and Cron is out due to earlier matchup.

SS Russell is defense only, so does not come out unless (see Seldom remove below). Marte backs up if injury. Gyorko can play ss in emergency.

LF Piscotty & Heyward depending on lineup. See best defense for who & when. Heyward backs up for injury 1st; Altherr is last to backup for injury.

CF This is Trout’s team all the way. Heyward backs up for injury 1st, then Altherr.

RF Stanton is in Rf to stay. Comes out for defense in mid-8th or 9th. See defense. Heyward or Piscotty backs up for injury (whoever is not in lineup), then Altherr.

Platoon / Injury

Player Usage Limitations:

Pitcher hitting / Pinch hitting: Use compare and common sense here please.

Defense

Defense/depth chart:  With a 2+ run lead in the mid-8th, my best defense highlighted should be in, unless used earlier vs a Lefty starter. OF: Altherr should be in Lf, unless Heyward is there. Stanton can stay in if due to bat in 9th, after that Heyward will play Rf.

(NOTES):

Starter#1 Buehler
(long and hard--SORTA)

Only has 137 innings & the best card. He should go at LEAST 6 innings even in dots. If tied or winning top of 7th, let bat with no runners on or 1 out or less. PH if runners on 2nd or 3rd with 2 outs. Definitely out after 7 innings..

Starter#2 MadBum
(patience)

He is a Lefty. Trying to get 5 innings, hopefully 6. If he gets tired, you can pull him. If he has given up 4 runs and we are within 2 runs either way leave him in. Pull him if your ballpark HR for Riteys is 10 or more. Definitely out after 6 innings. Montgomery can be 1st reliever in if less than 6 innings.

Starter#3 Roark
(some patience)

Trying to get 5-6 innings. He can pitch the 7th with a 4+ lead, but out if gets 2 runners on. Pull him when tired or given up 4 runs, and we are losing by 2+ runs. Bullpen in definitely by 8th with less than 6 run lead. Montgomery can be 1st reliever in if less than 6 innings.

Starter#4 Anderson
(little patience)

5-6 innings would be good. He can pitch the 7th with a 4+ run lead, but out if gets 2 runners on. Pull him if he gives up 4 runs or gets tired. Bullpen definitely in by 8th inning, unless we are up 6+ runs. Montgomery can be 1st reliever in if less than 6 innings.

Starter#5 Richards
(some patience)

5 innings would be good. Can pitch 6th but look to pull at 1st sign of trouble with a runner on and less than 3 run lead. Pull him if he gives up 4 runs or gets tired. Definitely out after 6th inning. Montgomery can be 1st reliever in if less than 6 innings.

Specific innings limitations:

Buehler, 7 innings max. MadBum, 6 innings max. Richards, 6 innings max.

Top of 7th:

PH for Roark, Anderson, except for Buehler (see Buehler) if losing or winning by 3 or less. If we have a 4+ lead, let bat – but pull in Bottom of 7th if get 2 runners on. PH always for MadBum & Richards—they only pitch 6 innings, never more.

Additional comments:

Montgomery(L) is 1st Reliever in prior to 5th or 6th inning for all Starters. He should be in 2 out of 3 games to bridge from starters to rest of pen. Once into 7-8th, go to best matchups. If blown out early, Starters can take one for the team until their MAX out. Roark & Anderson can go distance if we are 6+ runs down.

BULLPEN

R’y closer:

Dominguez is the Ritey. He should only pitch the 9th or later and for 1 inning only.

L’y closer:

McFarland can start 8th and go 2 innings.

R’y setup:

Clippard vs 2 of 3 batters that are Lefties. Clippard should not see rities in a game that is a 2 run or less differential either way in 8th or later.

L’y setup:

McFarland has 72 innings and can face whomever and go 2 innings.

Mid:

Axford has 55 innings and can bridge in 5-7 innings area. Clippard has 69 innings, but gives up the HR in Ritey BP’s. Montgomery(L) has 124 innings.

Situational:

    -R’y gets R’y:

Dominguez & Hudson

    -R’y gets L’y:

Clippard

    -L’y gets L’y:

McFarland & Cedeno

    -L’y gets R’y:

Cedeno

Longman/mopup:

Montgomery, the Lefty is the guy with most innings. Clippard would be the guy if Montgomery is unavailable.

Additional comments:

Bullpen, total of 7, is a mix of situational guys, including 3 Lefties, and 2 setup/closer guys. Hudson only has 27 INNINGS. Use as RvsR only vs a key stud Rty hitter. Cedeno(L) only has 33 INNINGS. Use as LvsR or L vs a key stud hitter late. Cedeno should only see 3 or 4 hitters a series. Hudson should only see 1 or 2 hitters a series.
